MERLELOR is a horseridersinn, brought about as part of a private initiative to stimulate on a small scale the economy in the village Halmeag, Transylvania.

In these activities as many inhabitants as possible are involved in providing them with work and food and buying their home made products and picked fruit, mushrooms, nuts and vegetables. Purpose is to give them some help in their mostly poverly existence.

The inn originated from working in the forests with horses, based on the same philosophy. Experience learned that the horses were very easy to handle. They tugged logs from the hill downwards and ran up themselves to get another one. They really enjoyed it.

The nice horses together with the beautiful scenery and the outstanding possibilities for riding led almost automatically to the erection of the Merlelorinn.

Merlelor wants to stimulate selfhelp. As a cause of the many years of communist oppression many people just wait and see what is happening and don't show any initiative whatsoever. Unguided donations will not create a selfthinking society and it ruined for instance the national clothingindustry because of the loads of second handclothes which were 'donated' to the Romanian people.

Merlelor does not imagine to change all this and the Romanian way of life but the lighting of one candle only also gives some warmth.

Merlelor offers you a fantastic holiday and leads you through the beautiful varied and fenceless country of Transylvania. In the Merlelor Inn you will find a West European level in an amicable atmosphere.

For the non-rider too there are plenty possibilities for hiking, biking, swimming and fishing and you can visit the beautiful old cities Brasov, Sibiu and Sighisoara, which escaped from the architectural vision of Ceaucescu.
