WELCOME AT HORSERIDERSINN MERLELOR

'HOLIDAY ON HORSEBACK AND FREE AS A BIRD'

Horseridersinn Merlelor is situated in Transylvania, Romania in the little village Halmeag and from the inn you directly step into free nature. There is no motorised traffic to be mentioned of and there are no asphalt roads.

Transylvania is one big unattached and unspoiled nature resort. You find here vast forests with giant trees, no cars or smells of civilization, hills, little streams, meadows with wild flowers and stunning scenery. The landscape is made for riding and there are no fences or borders which gives riding here a tremendous feeling of freedom.

Tough locked behind the Iron Curtain for most of the 20th century Romania has hung tenaciously to its rich cultural heritage. This is the moment to visit a fascinating country which is just opening up again to the outside world where life stood still and where you can meet with country rural life as it was in the thirties of the last century. Horses are woven in the daily life and there are more of them per square mile than anywhere else in Europe. In this land which was often invaded and with a turbulent history one sees fortified churches, pretty villages and German manors in the attractive Transylvanian countryside which is yet unspoiled.

You are most hospitably welcomed by the Dutch couple Huib and Bertina and their Romanian-Hungarian friend and partner Latsi, an excellent cook.

The inn lies between the Carpathian mountains and the banks of the river Olt.

Non-riders too find here a most agreable place to stay. The Olt offers swimming and fishing possibilities and the hills of Fagaras are famous for their hikingroutes.

The old cities Sibiu, Brasov and Sighisoara, declared as a UNESCO monument, are the cultural hotspots of Transylvania
